Centenary Year 1969, in 37 Universities involving 40,000 students with primary focus on the development of personality of students through community service. Today, NSS has more than 3.2 million student volunteers in all over the country.
National Service Scheme provides the students an opportunity to understand the community identify its needs and problems as well as the solutions in which they can be involved by assuming social and civic responsibilities. NSS also provides students with the opportunity to apply their education in finding practical solutions to the problems faced by the individuals. NSS enables students to participate in various programmes of social service and national development, and to help the community.


Sakthi Polytechnic College has two NSS Units which includes 200 student volunteers guided by two NSS Programme Officers and three supporting faculties.
This team organized many programmes like Medicinal camp, Dental camp, Eye camp , campaigns, seminars and awareness programmes etc., for the benefit of rural people and to develop the social and communal responsibility and leadership quality among the student volunteers.


In each year, The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India provides a sum of Rs. 28000/- for regular activities and a sum of Rs. 45000/- for special camp activities through the Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE), Guindy, Chennai-600 025 for each institutions having NSS unit. The amount is utilized for the benefit of students are involving various social activities and its expenditure. At the end of the Each academic year, the audit statement for the funds will be sent to Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai.
