The department started in the year 2001 on a self-supporting basis with the aim of educating the rural students in the field of information and technology. The department has an intake of 66 students in each year. The department has a well-established computer centre with HP 30 & LENOVO 36 computers with latest configuration. The systems are networked through Cisco switches and have a 10Mbps BSNL broadband line for internet usage. The equipment in the lab includes Scanner, HP laser printer, EPSON, M100, Ton Blue star Split AC’s and 15 KVA UPS for backup power supply. The faculties of our department are well qualified and have rich knowledge in their subjects, in order to update their knowledge.
The staff members are deputed to undergo training in the latest topics. Apart from the curriculum we organize guest lecturers by inviting eminent persons from industry and institutions in the emerging areas. We also encourage the students to participate in the technical symposium and quiz program conducted in various polytechnics throughout Tamil Nadu. Summer and winter vacations are useful to our students as we conduct short term courses in the emerging areas and arrange for the industrial training.
